Electroluminescent (EL) wire is commonly used in costumes, decorations and DIY signs. EL wire is a flexible phosphor coated copper wire which glows a particular colour when an alternating current is applied to it. It looks a lot like a very thin neon tube. The required power comes from the X 4101 controller unit which can be fitted with 2 x AA batteries (we recommend long life lithiums). The compact controller features two flashing speeds or constant on and is small enough to fit in your pocket. Note that the controller has a small inverter built in and will emit a low volume high pitch sound when switched on (this is typical of almost all EL wire controllers). EL wire rolls and controller are fitted with mating locking JST connectors.
